Bourne Deeping IIs (1) vs Long Sutton II (5)

With both teams languishing near the foot of the table, this fixture was already being billed as the archetypal 6 pointer clash.

Bourne Deeping started sluggishly although returning forward Chris Mann began in determined mood, closing down the Long Sutton defenders quickly, denying them time and space on the ball. Yet Mann's impact on the game was to be painfully cut short as he closed down a Long Sutton defender's attempted aerial clearance and received a ball in the mouth for his trouble; an injury which would require an immediate trip to A&E and result in 30 stitches.

However as the game restarted it was Long Sutton who struck first blood (for the second time), turning the ball over deep in the Bourne Deeping half and quickly creating a 2 v1 which they exploited to take a 1-0 lead. The Dragons fought their way back into the game but Long Sutton doubled their lead through a well struck short corner. Bourne Deeping did hit back through Simon Thomas, the young forward making it 2 in 2 games for the Dragons, however Long Sutton scored a 3rd to restore their 2 goal advantage as Bourne Deeping were once again caught on the break. The final 5 minutes of the half were Bourne Deeping's best so far as they started to get to grips in the midfield area and a couple of nice passing moves lead to chances which on another day might have been taken, but as it was the team went in at the interval with Long Sutton 2 goals to the good with the score at 3-1.

The interval saw Bourne Deeping make plans to remedy the situation, but alas a lack of discipline in midfield meant they were too often chasing shadows and as the game opened up, Long Sutton scored a further 2 unanswered goals to comfortable close out the game 5-1 winners.

Man of the match - Tom Everton - growing into the role of right back with every match he plays.
