The previous meeting of these teams was a 5-1 Win for City of Peterborough, and the Bourne Deeping team were keen to make amends for that result. The early exchanges were nervy with both teams not wanting to make a mistake. City of Peterborough started the stronger, and took an early lead. Bourne Deeping then upped their game and equalised with a stunning reverse stick strike from Shane Carlton. At the break it was 1-1, and Bourne Deeping felt that the game was there for the taking. In the second half Bourne Deeping kept the work rate from previous games and continued with the style of play they had shown in the first half. A second goal was scored by Russ Seton from a short corner, not the best one of the season, but they all count! This was then followed shortly afterwards by Kevin Baker’s first of the season, a well-placed push through a crowd of players and into the bottom corner, giving Bourne Deeping some breathing space. They then continued to work hard chasing down the defenders to give them no time to dwell on the ball, and also making sure any attacks were closed down and dealt with. This was a good performance and still keeps the possibility of promotion alive, we need to ensure we win all our games, including this weekend’s return to Peterborough to play City of Peterborough 6ths, and then we are relying on other results to go in our favour.
