Spalding 3 vs Bourne Deeping 3
A fast and furious game was played at Spalding's pitch with Spalding taking an early lead against the Dragons with a breakaway goal. However the Dragons so returned the favour quickly with some great play between Lewis Stedman and Andrew Dodds leading to John Oakley driving into the D and striking the ball into the back board of the goal. This seemed to anger the already very rowdy Spalding squad who soon struck back with another breakaway goal. The Dragons continued to bombard Spalding and started to dominate the game. Going into halftime the Dragons were down by 2-1 but knew this was not a true reflection of how the game was going.
The 2nd half began and the Dragons held onto the ball keeping possession. Some great play between Ryan Bennett and Harry Oakley lead to Joe Allen receiving the ball just outside of the Spalding D and with some exceptional individual skill taking on 2 players he soon got into the D and fired a great shot into the bottom left hand side of the goal. The Dragons continued to dominate for a short period of time, with some great pieces of play from Matt Clarkson and Ben Walden which won short corners, that unfortunately could not be converted into goals. The Dragons then tired and Spalding came back into the game and were very good on the break, scoring their third breakaway goal of the game. The Dragons kept their heads up as a 4th goal was scored by the Spalding team.
A tired Dragons squad started trying to do too much themselves and were no longer letting the ball do the work, which left Spalding able to make easy tackles which allowed them to score a 5th. The Dragons came off the pitch after the final whistle very disappointed but knowing they have a lot to work on and improve on for the future.
Squad: Joe Allen, Joe Wray, Jo Gresty, Paul Curtis, Lewis Stedman, Josh Tate, Ryan Bennett, Andrew Dodds, Matt Clarkson, Harry Oakley, Brad Mansfield, John Oakley.
Scorers:- John Oakley, Joe Allen
