Back To Winning Ways

Beccehamian 20 - HSBC 5

Normal service was resumed at Sparrows Den on Saturday as we defeated a spirited HSBC side.
HSBC kicked off and dominated the early exchanges but eventually Beccs turned the ball over and swept up the field. After a series of attacks which were repelled by good HSBC defending Tom Ottewill scored a try under the posts and Jack Cowell converted.
Just before half time Callum Buckler was yellow carded for being off his feet at a ruck. In the next passage of play a HSBC player was yellow carded for the same offence.
After a clash of heads Joe Sheehan and a HSBC player left the field with head cuts. This gave an early opportunity for Tyler Ardley to make his first team debut.
Five minutes into the second half HSBC turned the ball over just inside their half and the wing burst down the pitch to go over in the corner, but they failed to convert the try.
After a series of attacks which were well defended by HSBC Beccs were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which Callum Buckler kicked.
Callum Buckler then kicked another penalty to put Beccs 13-5 ahead.
The centres contrived a break in mid-fielld and Pat Reffell went over under the posts to give Callum Buckler an easy conversion.
There was still time for George Tossell to make another break from our half but he did not have the legs to run all the way. Harry Copley did not go over the line at the end but the referee decided he had not grounded the ball.
