Pulborough RFC 29 Becchamian RFC 22
Two bonus points from a tough away game
This is a brief report because I ran touch for this game and it is difficult to do two jobs at once.
The early exchanges were fairly even although the Beccehamian side looked a little rusty because they had not played the previous week.
First blood went to Pulborough when the left wing peeled off a maul and went over in the corner. The try was not converted leaving the score 5-0.
Beccs managed to get some possession at this stage and eventually Sol Usher went over near the posts to leave Alex what looked like an easy conversion. Alas Alex’s kick hit the upright as I was about to put my flag up leaving the score 5-5.
After some good attacking play Pat Reffell went over in the corner but Alex failed to kick the conversion 5-10.
Pulborough were not finished for the half and came back to score another try in the corner to make the score at half time 10-10.
The second half looked daunting for Beccs as we had to play against the wind and slight slope. However we had a good spell in the first few minutes and Jordan Souter went over for a try and Alex kicked the conversion 17-10.
Pulborough came straight back at us and again scored a try which was not converted 15-17.
For the next 25 minutes Pulborough dominated possession and territory. In the process they scored one try under the posts which was converted to give them the lead 22-17.
Some valiant defence from Beccs held Pulborogh out but eventually they scored another converted try to stretch their lead to 29-17.
Most spectators thought Beccs were finished but we managed to dominate the last 10 minutes and it looked like a good Pulborough defence would stop us scoring but with the last move of the game Jordan Souter scored another try but Alex could not convert it 29-22.
As a result we ended up with two bonus points.
Thanks to Pulborough for a thoroughly enjoyable game.
