Beckenham v Orpington:
Orpington were by far the bigger and older side in this fixture, although giving us a run for our money, we managed to put 3 tries past them fairly quickly, first try of the tournament I think went to Adam Payne
. We went on to win the game by 5 tries to 2. A good start to the day.
Beckenham v Blades
(Blackheath side): A very well drilled outfit, who managed to put a try past us in the first minute of the game, but we soon equalized through Luke Harding
. One of their players disliked this (possibly their Romanian international?) and he lost the plot. Sitting on Luke whilst giving him a hit to the face as Luke was trying to get up from scoring his try! Sadly, we then lost the plot…with lots of silly mistakes and all the tries were theirs thereafter. Loss by 6 tries to 1.
Beckenham v Brockleains.
This game saw us come together and look like the team we actually are. Some fantastic 7s rugby, running in some very smooth, easy looking tries. The first 2 credited to kevin kalissa, although one not under the posts when he was clean through (he got some stick for that), and a further two to Liam Johnson
. Not without a fight though, Brockleians gave us some good rugby in the second half, but Luke Harding
and Jamie Roumph
were instrumental in winning ball, tackling and pesting. We overcame, 6 tries to 2.
Beckenham v Askeans 1
This game was hard fought, with askeans being a neat little side, but our defence was good, Buch and Roumph putting in some great work, but it was a try for us then a try for them, and this is how the game went on. They had the last word though and won the game by a try (possibly 2)
Beckenham v Dartfordians (19-17)
This game was called forward by 10 minutes to prevent too much waiting around. After a tough game where the score line was equal with superb tries from Liam Johnson
, Kevin Kalissa and James Curr
. At full time it was a draw, so the decision went to golden try. We were receiving, ball won, and the gap was found by playmaker JC within the first 30 secs of extra time, who free'd up Nick Murphy
(skipper) to run straight and score. Job done, game won!
Beckenham v Hastings a Bexhill (28-21)
Real tester of a game but 2 pretty well matched sides. It went a bit like the Askeans game, one for us, one for you, one for us, one for you. All the time though, all the guys worked hard, toughest game of the day as you would expect. We were trailing 7 points behind and in the last minute of the game Craig Thomo found space and ran a fantastic line to score. The conversion was added, and we then had to go to extra time (first try wins). Their very nippy winger who had previously gone off with cramp, luckily had the ball fall for him at KO, and despite Chima giving chase, he got through and sadly that was the end of our tournament.
Hastings and Bexhill went onto win the cup. They had this to say on their website:
“On the way they beat strong Kent league adversaries Dartfordians, 45-14, and in their toughest game of the day, just edged out London One club Beckenham in the last moments of the semi-final extra time, 28-21”
Top try scorer of the day: Liam Johnson

Again, bad management on my part in that I failed to write down the actual score lines, or try scorers for each game. I have written a hundred lines and slapped my own wrists and promise to do better at Rugbyrocks. Therefore, top try scorers were calculated by Reg, not me. Look out for a much more detailed report next week. Apologies guys.
