Now the “will we”, “won’t we” saga has been resolved over the Championship and the dust has settled from the decision of the High Court, we can look at the fixture list with mouth watering anticipation.
On Saturday 1st September at Pontypool Park, the Green & Gold will deservedly and proudly take their place at the highest level within the Community game.
There were some of the die hard supporters who questioned the wisdom of chasing the “Championship Dream”. To those I say you only had to look at the faces of the players when the announcement was made, to realise what it meant to them to have the opportunity to ply their trade at this level. This is also a fantastic opportunity for the coaches to show their worth in the new league. I’m sure they’ll grasp the mantle and make sure we are competitive within the set up.
From day one of the process for selection to the Championship the Club Committee showed its full support to our application to join, leaving the decision to be made, a rugby decision and not a purely financial one. To those involved we thank them for their support and understanding of the situation.
The players, coaches and management team would single out our Club Secretary, Jamie Willis, for a special mention. From the onset of the process Jamie has championed the cause of the club at every level to ensure we would take our place in the Championship. It is testament to his hard work in lobbying every man and his dog to make this happen. Thanks a million Jamie!
Thanks also have to go out to those clubs who showed their support for our application. Messages of support not only came from fellow Championship teams but from sides throughout the leagues. Guys we appreciate your support.
