All the action from around the village

It is a big weekend of sport at our Club with our 1st XV facing a trip to one of Wales’ most famous rugby grounds.

The 1st XV will make the journey to St Helens the home of Swansea RFC and the former base of Glamorgan CC for another Swalec Championship tie (2.30pm).

The All Whites have been in excellent form this season losing just once in their first nine games and that was against league leaders Merthyr. They have put Cardiff Met (45-20), Pontypool (32-16), Tata Steel (41-17), Narberth (39-32), Glynneath (25-10), Newbridge (66-10) and Newcastle Emlyn 27-13) all to the sword. They have played two games less than Beddau as they had games against Bargoed and Llanharan postponed. They currently lie in second spot eleven points behind Merthyr but with two games in hand.

The Green and Golds know they will be massive underdogs at one of the most famous Clubs in Welsh rugby but they have proved they are capable of competing and causing upsets in the league this season.

Match referee is Mr Tom Spurrier (Barry, Vale of Glamorgan).

Admission is £10
Concessions £8
Children Under 16 free

The Development XV will return to league action after a period of postponed games due to the adverse weather. Mountain Ash will be the guests at Mount Pleasant Park in the Rhondda and East Glamorgan league (also 2.30pm).

The Old Firm currently lie three places below Beddau in the league with one win over Aberdare and three defeats against Penallta, Ystrad Rhondda and Dowlais. They are other competitive game this season saw a defeat in the Ifor Williams Cup at Bargoed.

Beddau’s young squad have had a recent good run in league action and will be hoping for a win to keep them pushing up the league standings.

Referee to be confirmed

Unfortunately our Youth XV have had to postpone their visit to the House of Pain, Sardis Road, home of Pontypridd as they are unable to field a side for the Blues BA fixture.

Mini and Junior Rugby

Our “Bulldogs” are in action again this weekend.

The under 8s make the short trip to Llantwit Fardre, the under 9s and 10s will entertain Rhydyfelin.

The under 11s play Bedwas at Yorkdale and the Under 12s are on the main field against Senghenydd.

The under 14s face a tough away trip to Newbridge.

The under 7s and under 13s are awaiting late pool fixtures.

Football

Cwm Welfare 1st XI will be hoping to avenge a heavy defeat last week at neighbours Pontypridd Town last week when they meet again this Saturday at Mount Pleasant in another Welsh League Division Three tie.

Ponty who have just lost one this season claimed the derby rights last Saturday with an emphatic 5-1 win but both teams know it will be so different come 2pm this Saturday afternoon.

Match referee is Mr Darren Hales.

Cwm Welfare Reserves XI will be hoping to pull back Cardiff Corinthians in the league table when they travel to the capital this Saturday in the Welsh league Reserve West Division.

Cwm are currently fifteen points and six places behind the Corinthians in the league table.
