All the action from around the club and community

The season is slowly drawing to an end but there is still some action for our teams over the weekend.

The 1st XV will make their second road trip to West Wales in seven days as they face Narberth in another Swalec Championship fixture on Saturday.

The Green and Golds were beaten 23-19 at Newcastle Emlyn last week which means that Emlyn survive in the Championship for another season. This Saturday they face a Narberth team that are also desperate for a win to enable them to keep their status in the league for next season. So it couldn’t be any tougher for Beddau on their final away league game of the season.

The Otters have been on a bad run of late which has seen them slip to a place and two points above the relegation spots. They have not recorded a win in any of their last five games as they were defeated by Newbridge (22-18), Tata Steel (32-27), Cardiff Met (18-7), RGC 1404 (56-14) and Newcastle Emlyn (20-15). Their last victory came back in March but they have recorded seven wins this season against Glynneath (20-12 & 43-3), Newbridge (19-18), Llanharan (40-15), Cardiff Met (32-26), Bridgend Athletic (20-11) and Beddau (20-16). They also held Bridgend Athletic to a 10-10 draw. The victory at Beddau was back in November.

Beddau are keen to get back into sixth position after slipping to seventh for the first time in several months after last weekend’s defeat. Coaches Lee Davies and Ben Daniels have had a heavy injury and player unavailability list over the last few weeks and will be hoping to take a stronger squad down West this weekend.
Kick off at the Lewis Lloyd Ground is 1.30pm at the request of the home Club.

Match referee is Mr Justin Williams (Llanelli).

Both the Development XV and Youth XV games are to be confirmed.

JUNIOR RUGBY

Our mini and junior “Bulldogs” hold the first of their two presentation evenings at the Clubhouse this weekend. The under 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s will all celebrate their season this Friday.

All fixtures have now been completed and we congratulate all age groups and hope they have a fantastic presentation night.

FOOTBALL

Cwm Welfare 1st XI will be hoping to climb further up the Welsh League Division Three table on Saturday as they welcome STM Sports to Mount Pleasant (2.30pm). STM are currently sitting in fourth place with seventeen wins from their twenty seven games, whilst Cwm stand in ninth spot with ten victories from twenty six games. A win for Cwm will see them jump a spot in the table.

Referee is Mr Andrew Wallen.

The Reserve XI have a very busy schedule of games at the moment and on Saturday they couldn’t have asked for a tougher task as they travel to current league leaders Cambrian & Clydach. The Rhondda Club have a lead of seven points at the top and are favourites for silverware. Cwm are still battling away at the lower end of the table.

Match referee is Mr Martin Williams.

DARTS

The Club’s Friday night darts team just keep going from strength to strength. They have yet to concede a single leg in the Pontyclun & District Darts Summer league after a 7-0 win at Coed Ely last Friday and the same score line against local rivals Cwm Welfare a week earlier. They will be looking to make it three wins out of three at home to Gilfach Goch Social this Friday. The darts night is always a good night at the Club so pop along and enjoy a good social evening whilst watching some top darts.

ENTERTAINMENT

Once again you can catch all the top Premiership and Championship soccer, Guinness, Aviva and Super rugby live in HD on the many big screens and large TV’s around the Clubhouse this weekend. There is also the regular Sunday entertainment in the bar from 5pm when another top vocalist will keep you entertained.
