All the action from around the club and community this weekend

The season is slowly drawing to and end for our teams but there is still plenty to play for.

Our 1st XV will finish their Swalec Championship league season at home to Cardiff Met on Saturday. The Green and Golds need just one point to claim a top six finish in their first season back in Welsh rugby’s second tier.

Beddau will have been hugely disappointed with their result in Narberth last weekend and will hope to give their supporters something to cheer about on their final game at Mount Pleasant this term. It is also an opportunity for players to push their claims for a starting place in next Wednesday’s Mid District Cup final against Bargoed or Nelson at Sardis Road the following Wednesday.

The Students recorded a 35-24 win over Beddau at Cyncoed earlier in the season in a good open game of rugby. Beddau scored three tries that afternoon through Ashley Coombes, Morgan Sienawski and Scott Britton. Sam Withers kicked seven points and Hywel Chatham also weighed in with a conversion.

The Met have won eight of their twenty five games this season, with wins over Tata Steel (49-28), Narberth (18-7), Newbridge (41-32), Bridgend Ath (39-20 & 32-24), Llanharan (60-7 & 58-19), Beddau (35-24) and Newcastle Emlyn (34-17). They may only be three points above the relegated teams but are only five points behind Beddau in sixth. Only the Students and Narberth who play away at Llanharan can finish above Beddau if the Green and Golds lose this weekend.

Match referee is Mr. Richard Brace (Maesteg).

Kick-off is 2.30pm

Admission £5
Concessions £3
Match programme £1

There are no Development XV or Youth XV games scheduled this weekend.

FOOTBALL

Cwm Welfare will be looking to get three further points in a Welsh League Division Three game with Newport YMCA at Mount Pleasant Park on Saturday.

The YMCA are in the bottom three of the table at present having won seven out of their twenty seven games. As for Cwm they currently sit in a solid mid-table position but could easily finish in the top seven if they get some more points on the board in the final weeks of the season.

Kick-off is 2.30pm and match referee is Mr. Allen Griffiths.

DARTS

Our Friday nights darts team will be looking to make it five from five in the Pontyclun & District Darts summer league as they travel to Whitehills B. Beddau top the table at present having won fifty three legs and lost just twelve in their opening games. Whitehills currently sit mid-table with two losses and two wins from their first round of games.

All the action starts at 8.15pm.

JUNIOR RUGBY

Our mini and junior “Bulldogs” have now finished their season and we hope they all have a good summer and come back refreshed and ready to put on another good show after all their success this season.

ENTERTAINMENT

There is plenty of live sporting action to be seen on the many big screens and large TV’s around the Clubhouse including what should be an excellent finale to the Premiership football season. There is also the regular live entertainment in the bar from 6pm.

LOTTERY

The Club lottery was won by Club stalwart “Ziggy” this week.

A massive jackpot of £6919 was claimed with four people taking the £20 prize for three numbers. The numbers drawn were 3-4-10-20.

This week’s lottery jackpot restarts at £250. Ask at the bar for your lucky tickets.

Get em in Zig!!!

Have a great weekend.
