All the weekend action from around the club and community

There is plenty of action at the Club over the weekend with our senior teams kicking off their new league campaign.

The 1st XV will face the trickiest of starts in the National Championship with a tough away trip to Tata Steel (2.30pm).

Tata have recruited well over the summer months and will be keen to push on from what was a good mid-table finish last season.

Margam has not been a happy hunting ground for the Green and Golds over recent years so coaches Ben Daniels and Ross Johnson will have their squad well drilled for Saturday’s clash.

Tata came up on top in this fixture last season, winning 26-15 in awful conditions. Beddau scored two tries that afternoon through winger Cobi Flowers and second row James Cashin. Hywel Chatham kicked a penalty and a conversion. Beddau avenged that defeat though at Mount Pleasant in March with a 22-6 success.

As like last season, the Clubs 2nd XV will start their Rhondda & East Glamorgan DRU league campaign with a home fixture against Bargoed on Mount Pleasant Park (2.30pm).

The Rhymney Valley Club were hugely successful last season, winning the Division One crown and picking up the Ivor Williams Cup final after a nail biting 33-27 win over Beddau in a classic game at Penygraig.

There is fresh optimism of a good season under new coaches Preece and Majothi and they will welcome back several players to that squad that lost to Rhydyfelin in a pre-season fixture last weekend for this week’s league big opener.

Match referee is Mr Martyn Beazer.

The Youth XV’s scheduled Blues A league opener with Glamorgan Wanderers is off as the Ely Club have decided that will not be running a team this season, so the young Green and Golds have arranged a tough away fixture with Caerphilly.

The young Cheesemen finished runners up in the Welsh Youth play-offs final last season and were crowned Dragons league Champions.

This tie will be a good early test for the young Beddau outfit who are gradually coming together under the leadership of new coaches Andrew Daley, Bradley James and Liam Kumar.

MINI & JUNIOR RUGBY

It is not just the big kick off for the Seniors this weekend as our mini and junior “Bulldogs” also kick off their new season.

There will be plenty of action on the fields of Beddau this weekend so get out and support our future stars.

Our best wishes go out to all our age grade teams for the coming season. Remember to play hard and fair but more importantly enjoy and have plenty of fun.

FOOTBALL

Cwm Welfare will continue their quest for their first points of the new season this Saturday as they welcome Tredegar Town to Mount Pleasant Park in another Welsh National League Division Three fixture.

Cwm sit bottom of the table at the moment after suffering three defeats in their opening three games.

Saturday’s visitors have just played the one league game this season and that was on the opening day of the season when they recorded an impressive 5-1 home win over Penrechieber.

Match referee is Mr. Darren Hales.

DARTS

It is getting very nail biting for our Darts team as they go into the final three weeks of the Pontyclun and District Darts Summer league.

Beddau currently lie in top spot in the table with 116 points which is just a point more than second placed Ogmore A who they face on the final Friday of the season.

Beddau will be looking to not just stay top of the table this weekend but to make amends for a defeat that they suffered earlier in the season to this Friday’s hosts Llanharry WMC who broke their amazing 57 unbeaten game run.

Phil Matthews hit the only 180 in that game for Llanharry who went on to win the fixture 4-3 (10-9 on legs).

The game will start at 8.15pm and Beddau will also be keeping a close eye on Ogmore A’s tie with Pencoed Socialites as the league challenge really hots up.

ENTERTAINMENT

It’s the start of the Guinness PRO 12 and Aviva Premiership this weekend and you can catch all the action live at the Clubhouse on the big screens and many large TV’s.

On Sunday afternoon there will be another top singer appearing live in the bar from 5.30pm. Admission is free for what is always a great early evening of entertainment.

LOTTERY

The Club lottery draw takes place every Monday and you can get your tickets from behind the bar over the weekend.

You got to be in it to win it remember!!!
