All the action from around the club and community

There is more action for our teams at the Club this weekend as the season gets into full flow.

The 1st XV will be looking to bounce back from a late loss at Tata Steel last week as they welcome title favourites Pontypool to Mount Pleasant Park in another National Championship encounter (2.30pm).

The Green and Golds had opportunities to take the points in Margam last week and were in fact leading into the last ten minutes of the game when mistakes inevitably gifted their opponents a 22-6 win.

This week Beddau will not be allowed to gift their illustrious visitors anything as they will punish them as they punished Narberth last week whom they crushed 46-0 at Pontypool Park.

Beddau can take plenty of optimism from the same fixture that was played early last season when they pushed Pooler all the way before finally losing out 10-9. Sam Withers slotted three penalty goals that day for Beddau to a penalty try and a penalty and conversion for Clayton Gullis for the visitors.

Beddau coaches Ben Daniels and Ross Johnson whom were not overly impressed with last week’s performance will be hoping to welcome back several players who missed that game for this week’s big challenge.

Match referee is Mr Neil Jones (Carmarthen).

Admission is £5
Concessions £3
Match programme £1

The 2nd XV make the shortest of trips to Cefn Mably to face Llantrisant in a friendly fixture, hoping also bounce back from a defeat last week.

Beddau’s young second string gave a spirited display against a Bargoed outfit last Saturday, which included several players who will play Premiership rugby this season and played Championship rugby last season.

Despite a heavy score line showing against them, the Green and Golds had parts of the game, particularly early in the second period when they had good possession.

They will face a good Llantrisant outfit who last weekend took last season’s Division Three Champions Brecon long standing home record off them with a 33-27 success.

Beddau did the double over the Black Army in the REGDRU league last term with a home 35-32 success followed by a good 51-26 result away from home.

Kick-off is also at 2.30pm.

Referee is Mr Peter Young.

The Youth XV will begin their Blues A league campaign with a home fixture against Mountain Ash at Yorkdale.

After a difficult pre-season the young Green and Golds are prepared to face a Young Firm side who had an excellent 2015/16 season.

In this fixture last season it was Mountain Ash who come out well on top with a 31-3 win but Beddau’s massive improvement during the season was evident as they returned from Mount with a 14-12 win late in last season.

Coaches Daley, James and Kumar will be in charge for their first ever league game and will be hoping their young charges will put on a good performance to give plenty of optimism for the rest of the season
.
Kick-off is 2.30pm and match referee is Mr Michael Aherne.

MINI & JUNIOR RUGBY

Our mini and junior “Bulldogs” continue their new season this Sunday. There is plenty of action once again on the fields in Beddau so pop along and give our future stars your support.

DARTS

Our Darts team despite recording a good 4-3 away win at Llanharry WMC were hit off top spot in the Pontyclun & District Darts league by Ogmore A’s 7-0 thumping of a Pencoed Socialities outfit whom Beddau entertain this Friday in the penultimate game of the season.

Beddau will be hoping to get some points on the board before what looks like a title shoot out with Ogmore A in Beddau next Friday. Lenny’s Lions will also be hoping that local rivals Cwm Welfare do them a favour this weekend and give Ogmore A a tough time in their tie.

Last time Beddau met the Socialites they were 6-1 winners with Cavan Phillips hitting a maximum during proceedings.

The game will start at 8.15pm and any support will be welcome.

FOOTBALL

Cwm Welfare 1st XI have a scheduled away fixture with Panteg this Saturday in the Welsh League Division Three.

Cwm will be hoping that their luck will change after they suffered three early season losses and had last weekend’s game with Tredeger Town abandoned when they were 3-0 up and the opposition down to ten man.

Panteg have one win from their first three games and that was a 6-2 triumph over Penrhiwceiber Rangers last week. Cwm are at the bottom but their hosts sit mid-table in the early league positions.

Kick-off is 2.30pm and the referee is Mr Jim Drewett.

ENTERTAINMENT

All the top Premiership football, including the Manchester derby, plus the top Guinness and Aviva rugby can be seen live on all the big screens and large TV’s around the Clubhouse this weekend.

There is also the regular live Sunday artiste performing in the bar from 6pm, which is always a great early evening of fun and frolics.
