All the action from around the club and community

There is more sporting action around the Club this weekend.

Our 1st XV will be hoping to get that elusive first win of the new season as they welcome Newcastle Emlyn to Mount Pleasant Park in another National league tie (2.30pm).

The Green and Golds will be bitterly disappointed to have just a bonus point to their name after they threw away early leads against Tata Steel, Pontypool and then Bedlinog last weekend. They will face an Emlyn outfit who have won win and two defeats from their opening three games. Their victory was an impressive 35-30 away success at Glamorgan Wanderers. Either side of that victory in Ely, the West Walian outfit suffered home losses against Cardiff Met and Narberth.

Last season Beddau came out 48-15 winners at home to Saturday’s hosts thanks to tries from Matthew Dixon (2), Lewis Egal (2), Callum Thomas and Carl Lewis with Sam Withers kicking the extras. However it was pay back at Emlyn in the return fixture at the end of last season where the home team were winners by 23-19.

Beddau are one off the bottom of the table whilst Saturday’s visitors sit in seventh spot with six points.

The 2nd XV have reversed their scheduled home Rhondda & East Glamorgan DRU tie with Mountain Ash to the Old Firm home ground, also 2.30pm.

The young Green and Gold squad have yet to record a win this season but enjoyed a good performance away at local rivals Rhydyfelin last week which will give them much needed confidence going into this weekend’s clash.

Both Clubs suffered heavy opening day losses in the league but will be keen to show the improvements they have made since then which has been helped by players returning.

Kick off is 3pm

The Youth XV are in Welsh Youth Cup action at home to Dragons Regional club Talywain. The 1st round tie will take place at Yorkdale kicking off at 2.30pm.

Talywain ply their trade in the Dragons B Division where they have enjoyed a superb start to the season with big wins over Abertillery BG and Cwmbran.

Beddau’s young charges have yet to register a win yet but their confidence is growing week by week and will be keen to halt their visitors unbeaten run and progress to the National tournament second round.

Match referee is Mr. Dave Phillips.

Kick off is 2.30pm

Mini & Junior Rugby

Our mini and junior “Bulldogs” will again be in action this Sunday, so if you get chance get out and support our future stars on the fields around the village.

FOOTBALL

Cwm Welfare AFC are also looking to kick start their season after three early season league defeats.

They will welcome Ely Rangers to Mount Pleasant on Saturday, who have recorded two wins in their first three matches and stand in fifth place in the Welsh league Division Three.

Cwm will be hoping for a victory that will see them rise up the table and the bottom of the table.

Kick -off is 2.30pm.

DARTS

After our darts team took their fourth consecutive Pontyclun & District Summer league title last Friday with an excellent 5-2 win over runners up Ogmore A, the attention turns to individuals this week as the Club hosts a very special tournament.

As a respect to Lenny Thomas who sadly passed away during the season, the Darts team along with the Club and the Pontyclun and District Darts league will host a tournament in his name this Friday.

The Lenny Thomas Memorial Darts tournament will start at 8pm. Registration opens at 7.30pm and entry for the tournament is just £2.

This should be a great night of darts and a perfect way to remember a great guy.

ENTERTAINMENT

This Saturday night there is another fundraiser at the Club as the under 15s host their “Endless Summer Caribbean Beach Party”.

It all starts at 6.30pm and entry is £3.

You can see all the Rugby Championship, Aviva and Guinness rugby and Premiership football live on TV at the Club over the weekend on the large TV’s and many big screens.

Also on Sunday the usual singer will play live in the bar from 5.30pm. Always a great fun night of entertainment.

LOTTERY

Don’t forget the Club lottery is drawn every Monday evening at the Clubhouse.

There is always a big jackpot to win so remember to get your lucky tickets over the weekend from behind the bar.

Have a good weekend.
