All the action from around the club and community

The final Wales Autumn International take place this Saturday but the late kick off means that there is still plenty of action in the Club early in the day.

The 1st XV will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after they lost their impressive unbeaten run at Glynneath a fortnight ago. But they will face another stern test this Saturday against Dunvant at Mount Pleasant Park in the National Championship.

The West Walians may be sitting one place off the bottom of the table but have enjoyed two good wins and tested several sides since their promotion as Champions of Division One West last season.

They had a massive 72-17 home win over Cardiff Met at the end of October to go with a good 23-0 home win over Newbridge on the opening day of the season. They suffered agonising losses to Skewen (23-24), Tata Steel (25-31) and Newcastle Emlyn (16-22) when they could have taken all the points.

Saturday’s fixture will be the first league encounter between the teams and a warm welcome is extended to all the players, coaches, officials and supporters of a Club who have a proud history.

The Green and Golds injury jinx again hit them at Glynneath but they will be hoping that some of the walking wounded will be available for selection this weekend.

Kick-off is 1.30pm due to the Wales versus South Africa fixture.

Match referee is Mr Kelvin Shorte.

The 2nd XV were due to take on Brecon in the REGDRU Ivor Williams Cup 1st round at Yorkdale but the game has been postponed after a request by the mid-Wales outfit. Tomos Preece and Riaz Majhoti’s young charges will now look to arrange a friendly fixture as they prepare for a return to league action next weekend at home to Aberdare.

The Youth XV will return to Blues BA league action with an away day at St Peters.
The young Rocks outfit have recorded two wins from their first six league games of the season which was against Cowbridge (35-24) and Merthyr (23-17). They have also pushed several of the top teams so will certainly be a big test for the young Green and Golds.

Beddau are still searching for that elusive first league win of the season and know that a victory on Saturday down in the capital will take them off bottom spot.

Kick-off at the Harlequins ground is 1.30pm and match referee is Mr Mark Sullivan.

MINI AND JUNIOR RUGBY

Our mini and junior “Bulldogs” will again be in action on the fields of Beddau over the weekend weather permitting.

If you get chance please get out and support these talented youngsters. They certainly know how to enjoy the game and play with a smile on their face.

DARTS

Our table topping darts team will continue their push to retain the Pontyclun & District Winter Darts league title this Friday with an away fixture at Whitehills B.

This will be a big test for Beddau as Whitehills are still in the title race having lost only once this season.

The fixture in Brynna will start at 8.15pm and any support will be welcome.

FOOTBALL

Cwm Welfare return to Welsh league division three action this weekend with an away fixture at Chepstow Town.

The Monmouthshire Club currently lie in seventh place having won five games and lost six of their first eleven encounters. Cwm are still in the bottom two of the table but know it is only a matter of time before they get the results they deserve and start rising up the league ladder.

Kick-off is 2pm.

Where Cwm’s first XI may be struggling in the table, the reserves team have certainly made up for it having enjoyed an excellent start to the season in the Taff Ely / Rhymney Valley league.

Cwm’s young guns won 2-0 away at Aber Valley which meant that they moved up to second place in the table and off top spot only on goal difference. Their title push will continue this weekend as they host sixth placed Cilfynydd AFC at Mount Pleasant.

Kick-off is 2pm and the referee is Mr Luke Mansell.

ENTERTAINMENT

What another good weekend of live sport awaits you at the Clubhouse this weekend. All the Autumn International rugby and the Premiership football can be seen live in the many big screens and large TV’s in HD. Make sure you get to the Club early to secure your seat.

Again on Sunday there will be entertainment in the bar from 5.30pm when a top local vocalist appears. Always a quality afternoon of fun and frolics.

LOTTERY

Remember to pick up your lucky lotto tickets at the bar over the weekend. What a better way to start the Christmas period than with a big winning jackpot in your pocket. This lottery is a great way of perhaps not just helping your bank balance but supporting your Club in its objectives of helping the community it serves.

Enjoy your weekend.
