On a day when many games were either not played or were badly interrupted, we were lucky enough to get through this game with no interruptions at all.

Chasing a total of 227, the Old Ruts were never really in the hunt. Apart from some middle order resistance from Molloy and Foster, they were unable to capitalise on some short pitched bowling by some of the Beddington spinners. Tom Bevan, yet another "new boy" struck twice early on and Lack removed the possibly dangerous overseas player Larry Joseph.
The spinners did bowl short at times but they did take 6 wickets between them and that was enough to see Beddington home very comfortably.

The Beddington innings was once again controlled by Craig McElligott (64) after the early dismissal of Sonny Zaman. Adam Trigwell played some lovely shots in his cameo innings of 34. The major partnership though was the one between McElligott and Graham Lester. Lester was quick out of the traps with a 4 and a 6 and by the the time he was out for an exciting 54, he had almost caught up with McElligott who had had started his innings 50 minutes earlier. Some further hard hitting in the last few overs from Tom Bevan (40 not) carried Beddington to a very respectable 227-6 - a target which always looked a bit too big.

Old Midwhitgiftians next week and let's hope that the 1st X1 are tested a bit more before the League season begins the following week.
