With the skipper unavailable, Daniel Baker called correctly for Beddington and East Molesey were duly inserted. Ryan Cummins, after a somewhat lean spell where wickets are concerned, removed both openers and Dave Lester, after an uncertain start, bowled steadily. However the appearance of Dan Lewis soon had its toll on Molesey. Dan destroyed their middle order and his figures of 3-35 in 13 overs did not altogether do him justice. East Molesey went into lunch on 113-5 and it was crucial that Beddington did not repeat their "after-lunch frailty" and let the opposition off the hook. There was a certain amount of surprise when the captain turned to Shaun Lewis straight after the interval but what a shrewd move by our skipper! Shaun bowled beautifully for his 3 wickets and when Ryan addded his fourth of the innings, East Molesey were soon all out for a meagre 136.

With Ian Gamble absent,Craig McElligott opened the innings with the newly-bespectacled and newly -confident Ian Messom. Neither batsman seemed to be in much trouble until Messom scooped one up to short extra. Simon Lewis went cheaply (33-2) and it was left to McElligott and Tom Bevan to double the score before McElligott was the victim of a somewhat dubious run out decision. Shaun Lewis poked and prodded around for a while but after he was out Graham Lester joined Tom Bevan. With the rain clouds closing in, both batsman showed a total disregard of the earlier batting conditions and stroked the ball to all corners of the ground. With the winning shot of the game, Tom Bevan(50*) reached a much deserved half-century.

With Spencer's game being abandoned Beddo have reached the heady heights of top of the table. There are some more difficult fixtures coming along and we will have to be at our very best to maintain this position and continue our press for promotion.
