Coaching class overcomes experience in local derby

At the start of the season, the Coaches from all of the age groups decided to arrange a match with Ampthill Vets as a way of getting to know each other better.
With promises of great play and comradeship it was good to see 17 fit (well more or less fit) players take the field for the warm-up.

The match on Saturday afternoon was played out in wonderful sunshine with a concerned crowd of faithful family and age group players watching on at The Ath.
The match started with Ampthill applying the pressure. They play regularly together so it was no surprise when they crossed the line to score the first try after only 5 minutes. The Bedford Coaches rallied and were starting to get to know each other as the ball was moved around the pitch. By half time, the Junior Blues coaches had scored three times through some interesting backs play. With only two spare players, the questions was who would expire first as the team looked to find the energy to resume.
By now, The Blues Coaches had found their stride and could now recognise their own team mates and at times, even remember their names. With some clever clearance kicking, The Blues aimed to spend as much time in the opposition 22, and this occasionally worked. Two more tries were scored in the second half by the Bedford Coaches and with Chairman Kevin Breeze securing the final points with an intersting conversion in front of the posts, it was time for celebrations in the bar as the home team won 29-5.

Well done to all of the Junior Blues coaches who turned out for the event - some players were even heard to say they were looking forward to the next Coaches fixture.
