Eagles win in Beds Senior Cup
Bedford go through on penalties
The Eagles progressed to the next round of the Bedfordshire Senior cup tie, beating Dunstable Town 3-2 on penalties at the Eyrie on Tuesday evening. Jon Taylor made changes to the side that devastated Bromsgrove Sporting at the weekend, leaving out Gavin Hoyte, Brett Longden and Jordan Jarrold
Within 20 seconds Bedford were on the attack, as Joel Gyasi
raced down the right before crossing into the area, where a Dunstable defender cleared away from the line.
Ben Collins then tried from an acute angle on the right for the visitors, and it was an easy enough shot for Kyle Forster
to collect at his near post.
was in the thick of the action following a Bedford corner, but he couldn’t make it count as the ball came into the area and it rebounded off his foot and over the bar.
Dummett made no mistake in the 18th minute when he bagged his second goal in as many games. A free kick was played into the area, and Dummett was there to direct the ball past Nick Hayes, in the Dunstable goal. A few minutes later, Dummett thwarted an attack as he put a tackle in at the right time.
Ethan Lamptey then flashed a shot from just outside the area that went just wide of the post.
Dunstable equalised in the 33rd minute after Dummett had made another saving tackle from Erin Amu. From the resultant throw, the ball was played into the middle of the area, and Chris Wreh was on his own to head the ball past Forster.
The 2nd half was a scrappy affair. Taylor Rhiney
had a shot blocked near the line and former Eagle, John Sonuga, was denied by Forster when his header powered goalwards.
Dunstable put the Eagles under pressure, but were unable to make it count.
The visitors missed their first two penalties in the shoot out, but it wasn’t all good for Bedford as they missed their first one, with Taylor Rhiney
scoring the second one, but only when the ball came off the bar and bounced over the line. Dunstable then scored their first penalty, and it was all square when Hayes saved James Peters
’ spot kick.. Ben Collins for Dunstable and Bedford’s Jermaine Osei
then made it 2-2 penalties apiece, before Forster saved fellow goalkeeper, Hayes’ kick with his legs. The winning penalty was placed in the top right hand corner by Connor Furlong
