Failure to Convert Territory & Possession Provides Costly..

Bedworth RFC made the short journey to Coventrians in what was the first league meeting between the two teams at any level. With both teams coming away from last week's games with victories expectations were no doubt high from coaches, players & supporters alike.

The travelling Bedworth team were looking for victory away from home for the first time this season, their last attempt they came unstuck at the hands of Burbage. In similar conditions to the Burbage game and having more of the possession & territory the travelling team could not take advantage and went down 10-3.

The only try of the game came in the first 25 minutes against the run of play, Bedworth had been camped in the hosts half for the majority of this time doing everything except putting points on the board. Despite being under pressure the Coventry based team used the weather conditions to their advantage to escape the pressure by booming the ball down field - which resulted in balls being spilt.

The hosts took advantage of this when the ball was picked up outside of the 22 and a weaving run and offload saw the home team touch down - the resulting conversion successful.

The second half was another case of Bedworth having territory & possession but not being able to cross the white wash with a single penalty being the solitary away score - although a clear try was disallowed when Lee Bennett dived under to tackles to clearly touch down for the referee to rule it out.

Lack of discipline yet again got the better of a frustrated Bedworth team in the last 10 minutes which saw numerous penalties awarded which eventually saw a penalty outside the 22 marched forward 10 to give the hosts an easy kick to seal the win.

Coaches Lee Tonks & Ryan Jenkins were visible upset & frustrated with the result, saying "It's hugely disappointing to see us lose in the same manner as the Burbage game, we asked for the squad to learn from that clearly they haven't". They continued "The simple thing is we need to learn & learn fast otherwise it's going to be a long season for everyone involved".
