28-0 Bonus point win for Bedworth RFC with tries by John Boss, Sam Croft, Steve Bates and Sam Taylor. Conversions by Connor Johnson

Bedworth RFC welcomed Redditch RFC to Nicholas chamberlain playing fields for this league fixture. The weather was poor with high winds, freezing cold and heavy rain making the conditions not ideal.

Bedworth started off quite slow with the conditions not suiting both teams, as with fingers cold, both teams found themselves dropping the ball more often than usual. 12 minutes gone Bedworth managed to get some phases together and power into the Redditch 22m. Good strength from the Bedworth forwards setting up quick ball to release the backs that were cutting great lines to stretch the Redditch defence. Sam Taylor with the line in sight powered through 2 tackles over the line to unfortunately knock the ball on before grounding. From the scrum Redditch were put under pressure but managed to clear their lines for Bedworth line out. Bedworth were piling on the pressure now with again some great carries from the forwards sucking in the Redditch defenders. Bedworth got the ball out wide to Sam Taylor who showed great strength to hold off the tacklers to give good off load to supporting Connor Johnson who tried to stretch for the line but unfortunately again Bedworth lost control with ball getting knocked out of Connors hands.
Resulting scrum Bedworth proved too strong with Redditch pack buckling and conceding penalty. Kieran Rawlings Quickly tapped and gave the ball to the charging John Boss who crashed over the line and made no mistake with the score-7-0 Connor Johnson conversion 15 minutes gone. From kick off Bedworth started to play really well with the ball going out to the backs, a lovely move splitting the Redditch defence found Sam Croft in space. Beating the last defender he scored under the posts. 14-0 Connor Johnson conversion.
Bedworth were finding their feet and going through the phases with big runs from Nathan Sipson, John Boss and Jakob Frost causing the Redditch defence problems. The ball then found its way out to the lively Riley who broke from inside his 10 metre line deep into the Redditch 22m. Unfortunately Bedworth knock on allowing Redditch to clear their lines and have little bit of breathing space.

The weather really started to take effect with rain pouring down; both teams were knocking on and not making any real ground. Bedworth managed to hold on to the ball creeping into Redditch 22m where Bedworth received penalty. Kieran Rawlins tapped quick and dived for the line only for the Redditch defender to place his body well under the ball. Held up scrum 5m from line. Bedworth pack showing their dominance with good drive from the scrum seen Cobi Baskerville pick up the ball stopped just short of the line. Ref playing advantage to Bedworth from the scrum resulted in penalty 5m out. Bedworth kept piling on the pressure but the ball was deemed to be held up over the line. Bedworth concentration slipped to allow Redditch to win the scrum but the Bedworth defence pressured forcing Redditch to knock the ball on over the line. The ball was scrappy from the scrum with play now outside the 22m to the left. Bedworth managed to scramble the ball back and release it wide to the right where the ball found Steve Bates. With players in front of him side stepped the first man and crashed into Redditch biggest player. This didn’t faze Steve Bates as he drove him back and went crashing over the line-21-0 Connor Johnson conversion 35 minutes gone.

Bedworth were now really motoring and going through the phases well. Redditch managed to string some play together keeping it tight and taking ball up past half way. Bedworth defence with great pressure forced Redditch to make loose pass. With the defence chasing the ball down Sam Taylor managed to kick the loose ball forward and tearing after it, like dog going after a ball, out paced all Redditch defenders to touch down under the posts- 28-0 Connor Johnson conversion bonus point secured. Referee blew an end to the first half.

The weather really turned start of second half, got much colder, rain was getting heavier and wind stronger. This had big impact on second half as both teams didn’t score. It got very scrappy with no teams really stringing phases together. The referee blew the end of game with both teams looking glad and hitting the warm showers quick.

Another good win for Bedworth RFC in the conditions with it now taking them to 7 games unbeaten. Some good performance’s from the front row, John Boss running strong and Liam Kimberley supporting well. Nathan Sipson gave another strong game with Cobi Baskerville doing well. The backs were looking good with Sam Taylor causing problems and being his animal best and Riley Haywood having great game with good line breaks and hard tackling.

Man of the match: this went to Sam Croft for great running lines and attacking well. Causing Redditch defence problems.

Well done lads. Unfortunately that brings us to the end of fixtures for 2018 with next game being away to Bromyard on 5th January. No training Tuesday or Thursday enjoy the break guys and have a great Christmas.
