BEDWORTH UNITED 0 CHALFONT ST PETER 2

The Greenbacks lost their way on the treacherous road to promotion for the second successive home match.

They were were gunned down by Chalfont St Peter’s virtual one-man attack named Charlie Strutton.
Strutton struck two long-range goals to earn the Buckinghamshire village side a “smash and grab” victory on their first-ever visit to The Oval.
The 22-year-old striker, starting a week’s trial with Leyton Orient, might have doubled his tally as he squandered two better chances.
His display left Bedworth to reflect on a harrowing afternoon that saw them play reasonably well, dominate for long spells - and finish with nothing.
Fortunately, two of the other teams in the top four - leaders Slough and third-placed Beaconsfield - also lost to soften the blow for manager Steve Farmer.
But the worrying statistic for the Greenbacks boss is that his side have taken just five points from their last five home games.
Farmer fielded a new-changed side with only four players remaining from the one that defeated Chalfont 3-0 on the opening day of the season.
New-signings Will Grocott and Richard Wesley made their debuts while three others - Matt Bannister, Keiran Brehon and Nick Pollard - had made only six full appearances between them.
There seemed at times a lack of understanding in the Greenbacks build-up as they went through their first goalless home game of the season.
Wesley and Grocott both missed close range headers in a bright start but Chalfont went ahead with their first goal attempt in the 36th minute.
STRUTTON turned skipper Ian Roper wide on the left before lashing a tremendous right-foot shot high into the net from fully 30 yards.
Within five minutes, Strutton flashed a stinging volley over from barely five yards when he should have done better.
Bedworth pressed for an equaliser after the break but the second most prolific attack in the division for once lacked the sparkle that has delighted their fans.
Joint topscorer Ashley Robinson struggled on the heavy pitch while his new strike partner Nick Pollard twice failed from close in.
Substitutes Mitchell Piggon, Matt Gardner, and Matt Brown, with 26 goals between them, were all brought on in a bid to salvage a point.
Piggon almost did the trick with a powerful low drive that was saved by Mark Oliver before defensive king-pin Roper was pushed up front in the last five minutes.
Sadly, with a minute left, STRUTTON clinched the points for Chalfont when he latched on to a loose ball in midfield before beating Tom Cross with a low drive from the edge of the box.
