Despite having this amount of changes Belper still took a very strong side to Loughborough showing the strength in depth they currently have. From last week’s game there were changes in most positions with everyone stepping up. The home side started strong but could not capitalise on early pressure with only a penalty to show for their efforts. Belper then upset them after several breaks led to Gwilliam finding some space. He made the most of it and powered over the line. This sparked the home side into action and despite a brave defence Belper conceded 3 try’s late into the half and lost Gwilliam to the sin bin.
The second half was a close affair but Belper could not keep out the home side despite valiant efforts from Lyon and Wilmott who had very impressive games for Belper. Mcdonald was also impressive at full back making good yards and last ditch tackles. Even though the home side had the game won Belper never stopped trying and after an excellent turn over by Mordue, Innocent was able to break down the centre. He off loaded to Chalkin who outplaced his defender to score.
Next up for Belper is Notts Moderns 3pm KO at Belper on Saturday. The England v’s Wales game will be screened live afterwards!
