On a surprisingly warm and bright November afternoon, Belper walked out onto the Strutts field with a point to prove after narrowly missing out on the full 5 points last weekend. After a slow start and with a try conceded, Belper kicked into gear and began to turn spells of possession and territory into points. Captain Carter left the field in the middle of the first half with an eye injury, with Dakin stepping in to cover the gap. Some expensive play from the Belper Backline lead to Belper securing the bonus point in the first half of the game, with momentum in their favour.
Tactical changes at half time saw James Naylor take the field and dial up the pace of the game drastically, ensuring no respite for the visitors. With Frank Watson operating sublimely at fly-half and the Belper pack delivering their usual efforts there was no real chance of East Retford turning the match around, and two further Belper tries saw the home side turn the screw with super sub Sam Chalklin running in a clever self-miss-pass (featuring dumbfounded hooker Chris Haines).
All in all another fantastic effort from the black and whites, who are quickly and efficiently leapfrogging their way up the table.
Next weekend Belper 1st XV take on Barton under Needwood in an RFU Cup encounter, with the slightly earlier kick off of 1400 at Strutts Field.
