Manager Jon Froggatt says he is feeling more optimistic about Belper Town’s chances of survival after his side climbed off the bottom of the League.

The Nailers claimed their first away win of the season on Tuesday night, beating Stamford 1-0 thanks to Ashley Burbeary’s strike.

Tomorrow, they are at home to 19th-placed Nantwich Town, who are only two points better off.

“It’s nice to be off the bottom,” said Froggatt (pictured) "We know we’ve played more games than some other teams but I’d rather have the points on the board.

“We’ve got a chance to get out of the relegation zone but we’re not getting carried away.

“We knew this job would not be easy but we have stuck at it.

“The squad is looking a lot stronger than six weeks ago and we’re feeling more optimistic now. We just need to put a run together.

“We’ve got some big games coming up against teams around us so, hopefully, we can pick up more points between now and Christmas.”

Froggatt was delighted with the performance at Stamford, which followed a 3-1 win against Grantham Town in the Doodson Sport Cup seven days earlier.

“It was a good team performance,” said the player-boss. “Everyone worked their socks off.

“I keep saying that I believe we’ve got the players to win any game. It’s just a case of working hard for each other. We did that on Tuesday.

“I wouldn’t say we hung on but we had to defend for long periods and we did that tremendously well.

“The midfield were awesome and I played up front on my own.

“I hadn’t played for six or seven weeks (due to injury) and I certainly felt it in the morning!

“The lads have shown great spirit and determination and long may it continue.

“The win at Stamford meant a lot to everyone. It was a great night and now we’ve got to follow it up."
