After a wonderful 12 months for the Nailers, the reign of manager Peter Duffield came to a bitter end on Saturday evening, writes Joe Malone.

This followed a torrid day away at Buxton after Belper Town were beaten 5-1, continuing their difficult start to the season.

Immediately after the game, Peter Duffield tendered his resignation.

In the wake of the news, the club acted quickly to ensure a stable environment was maintained, and strikers Jon Froggatt and Mark Ward have agreed to step up as temporary manager and assistant manager respectively.

Their work begins immediately as they take charge of the playing squad ahead of the upcoming fixture at home to Witton Albion on Saturday.

Froggatt placed on record his thanks to the departing management team, confirming that his time at the club with them at the helm was hugely appreciated.

“First, I’d like to say what a good job Peter and Mick have done at this football club.

“They’ve had a great spell here in charge and they’ve been fantastic with me.

“I was very saddened when they left.”

“As a senior player I thought it was only right to step up to the plate and offer my services.

“I’ve brought Mark Ward (pictured) back to the club and he’ll be working with me in helping to get this team performing to the best of its ability again.

“We have a squad capable of getting results, it’s just about making sure they’re all confident in themselves and they believe they can get that first win.

“Every game is a cup final for us, and Mark and I will be telling the players that when they come in for training on Tuesday and Thursday.

“It’s important now that the players play to the best of their ability, because if they don’t, there are other players in the squad who are more than capable of coming in and doing a good job.

“I know the fans loved Peter and Mick, and they had a lot of respect for them, as did all of their players, and I’d like to think that the supporters will now get behind Mark and I as we begin this week.”
