Belper Town Under 17s Girls Football team is appealing for more players to join up in a bid to improve the future prospects of the team which was formed just over a year ago.

Secretary David Laughlin said: “We want to encourage girls who were aged between 15 and 17 at 31st August this year to come an join our team.

“Ladies football has become the nation’s number one female team participation sport and is the fastest growing sports sector in the UK”.

Team coach Rob Willis said: “We only have 12 players at the moment but we really need to increase our numbers if we are able to cater for enforced withdrawals from the squad.

“Although we play in 9 versus 9 games we need a lot more players than that to give players a breather during games and to cover absences through illness or injury.

Rob added: “We also want to win a few more matches this season and to consolidate the progress that we made last season.

The team play in on Saturday mornings in the Derbyshire Girls and Ladies League. Home matches are played at Cavendish Fields at Matlock. Transport can be provided for home and away matches

Training sessions take place on Monday evenings at Belper Town Football Club (7.00 pm)
