Belper Town Football Club is pleased to announce that former captain, Phil Watt, together with midfielder Michael Towey have both signed for the club.

Following their move from Grantham Town, both players are in the Nailers squad to face Histon in the FA Trophy on Saturday

Watt (pictured) was the Nailers talisman in their promotion winning team last season, captaining the side and leading by example with some huge displays at the heart of the Belper defence in their promotion campaign.

His presence was felt especially in the promotion play-off games against Leek Town and Mickleover Sports, against whom he scored the decisive goal that sent the Nailers into the NPL Premier Division.

Watt originally arrived at Christchurch Meadow in October 2013 after a brief spell with Evo-Stik League rivals Coalville Town but disappointingly for Belper supporters, he opted to move back to one of his former clubs, Grantham Town at the start of the 2014/15 season.

Watt started his career as a youth player at home town club, Rotherham United and had a spell at Lincoln City where he made a number of first team appearances before joining Corby Town in 2008 for a two-year stint.

From Corby, he joined Grantham Town for the first time where he was an influential member of the Gingerbreads team that also won promotion to the NPL Premier Division. He moved on to Boston United in January 2013 where he was reunited with his former Corby manager, Graham Drury before his brief stint with Coalville Town.

30-year-old Towey is a highly regarded and experienced goal-scoring central midfield player who has spent the last two seasons at Grantham Town and scored seven goals in 49 games for the Gingerbreads last term.

He originally joined Buxton in November 2005, spending eight seasons at Silverlands, developing through the leagues as the club progressed and scored 60 goals from just over 350 appearances for the Derbyshire side.

Towey will add power and strength to the Nailers midfield and will hope to chip in with important goals to help Belper’s fight to stay in the NPL Premier Division.
