BCC roller too hot to handle for clubman Tom Boother!
Following recent committee meetings regarding player involvement in ground preparation next season, clubman Tom Boother decided there was no time like the present and took to the roller for the very first time. After 15 minutes sat on a started roller cluelessly wondering why it was still stationary, help arrived and with increase revs Tom nervously negotiated the reverse through the gateway. Having stopped with substancial room to manover and head for the square, Tom placed the roller in second gear and was informed that it would take off quickly, an obvious concept for the majority to understand! Within an instant of pushing the drive lever forward cries of 'oh no', 'help' and many an expletive (imagination required), Boother was bench bound. Sheer surprise of the rollers 0-60 capabilities had horror etched over his face. Steering, taking the roller out of gear, reversing, braking, you name it, they weren't considered as Tom's arms and legs did anything and everything to avoid the necessary evasive action. Consequently, in no time at all the famous bench, present since the clubs reformation in 1993 was demolished. The only consolation was before he reached the scorers shed, Boother had turned the engine off... Richard Penny will be relieved but, nonetheless, a sad day for those who cherished the bench on matchdays.
