Jewson's Building Better Communities Scheme
A successful bid will aid the development of the new pavilion, but to be successful, we need you, the community to help.
The Club has improved in standard since starting league cricket in 2000, such that we have risen through five divisions to now play in Division One of the North Devon League. There is a thriving Colts section with up to 50 youngsters training at the ground on Monday evenings, providing a much-needed sporting opportunity in an area of rural Devon where such opportunities are limited. However the pavilion remain the same wooden structure that was erected in 1993, comprising two small changing rooms (2m x 4m) either side of a larger room (4m x 4m) where teas are laid out (see photos). There is one cold water tap in the central room with water for teas being heated by a generator-powered urn, and very limited food preparation facilities. There is no lighting, insulation, bar facilities or hot water.
Increasing the size of the pavilion is seen as a vital step towards providing better facilities which will improve the social side of the Club as players, Colts and their families and supporters would spend more time at the ground. The many villagers who help the Club with day-to-day running costs through their financial contributions would be much more inclined to visit. New volunteers would be attracted to help maintain the Club. Other non-cricket events could be staged for the local community. A good standard of catering would be possible.
At first we would like to increase the size of the two changing rooms so there is room for everyone to sit down and space for showers; insulate all the rooms; and make provision for cabling and pipe-work that can be added in the future. We anticipate the work being done by skilled volunteers from the Club.
