Hull and District Youth Summer League - Under 11
| East Hull | 26 | vs | 0 | Beverley Braves |
Too many mistakes cost Beverley in opening game of the season.
East Hull 26 Beverley Braves 0
Beverley faced a tough away opener against one of the best teams in the league, in East Hull, but did themselves absolutely no favours in an error strewn forty minutes of rugby.
East Hull, always dangerous in attack, capitalised on a large knock-on tally from the Braves, who, despite a massive effort in defence, saw only one completed set of six with ball in hand.
Beverley had no subs available, and with Easts enjoying 70% possession, mainly due to spillages, the gaps in defence obviously appeared.Beverleys defensive effort was not helped, however, by several unpenalised incidences of elbows in, which left more than a few playing on with knocks.
The Braves' never say die attitude almost paid off when Kai crashed over the white-wash after good work from Alex and Connor, but was chalked off, the ref calling held up.
For effort and detemination, Beverley deserved more from the game, but lack of fresh legs, and mistakes with ball in hand cost them dearly against a very strong East Hull outfit.
Stu Gaden summed up their gritty performance when wiping blood off his sons tear stained face - "Dont worry about it, a little bit o bloods good for yer." The kind of bloke you want on the receiving end if you ever feel the need to ring the Samaritans.
