Tough going in Keyingham

Beverley under 14s found it very tough going in Keyingham against a very good Vikings
outfit who got quick out of the blocks and kept their foot on the pedal for an hour!
Despite the score the young Braves never took a backward step and showed bucket loads of
effort whilst trying to play some good rugby of their own and whilst not taking anything
away from Holderness, if some of the referee’s dubious calls had gone the other way and an
early disallowed try to Jack Dixon off an astute Tom Nuttall grubber had stood then the
score line surely wouldn’t have been so hefty.
Fullback Chris Martin was busy early until succumbing to a head knock, Josh Hamlyn was
great off the bench along with Jordan Finch and Kai Johnson added some muscle in the
middle in his first game. Alex Nuttall was the pick of the forwards though with some superb
runs out wide but this week’s best was hooker come stand off Charlie Gay who’s sheer
effort in defence and with the ball meant he didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.
Coach Craig Collins chose Shakespeare afterwards to inspire his growing flock-
‘It takes strength to be certain, It takes courage to have doubt’
