Reserves beaten by a strong Milford in league opener
Last years’ league runner’s up pick up where they left off.
Reserves beaten by a strong Milford in league opener.
In the opening exchanges of the fixture, Bexhill were able to assert themselves and were duly rewarded after 5 minutes when Megan Keen’s fine solo effort found the back of the visitor’s net. In reply, Milford’s quality shone through and within minutes they hit a trio of goals in quick succession. Bexhill spiritedly fought their way back in to the fixture and were able to absorb large periods of pressure without conceding further, veteran stand-in goalkeeper Serena Mathews making a series of saves. Just before the break Milford recorded a fine finish to end the half 4-1 to the good.
A tactical change at half time took time for the home side to adjust to which allowed Milford to capitalise and register a further hat trick of goals. Bexhill continued to show grit and determination throughout, winning a penalty which Gabriella Beckett was unfortunately unable to convert and ensuring they put their body on the line when defending. Milford deservedly added 2 further goals to their tally before the conclusion of the tie and if they can replicate similar performances in the fixtures that follow, should again challenge for the league title this season.
