Reserves suffer defeat in first away fixture of the season
Timing of Mole Valley’s goals crucial
With barely a minute on the clock, Bexhill found themselves down to 10 briefly, when Becky Oak picked up a slight knock and had to leave the pitch for treatment. Mole Valley capitalised on their numerical advantage, and a poor infield pass from Bexhill, to slot home a well taken strike from just inside the 18 yard box. Undeterred, Bexhill were able to hit back 2 minutes later when Megan Keen linked up with Chloe Kennedy, whose instinctive turn and volley from 30 yards beat the Mole Volley number 1. In the 30 minutes that followed, both sides constructed a number of attacking plays, Lucy Knight was denied by the onrushing home goalkeeper and Bexhill’s backline snuffed out most of the home side’s efforts. In the final moments of the half, the Mole Valley number 10 found 3 yards of space from a cross and lifted her effort over Keila Tucker from 10 yards. Midfielder Magda Trybula was able to dispossess her counterpart and find Kennedy, whose effort rattled against the bar in reply.
After the break, Mole Valley extended their lead further with 2 goals in 2 minutes, initially from an uncharacteristic error from Tucker, followed by a fine solo effort after a strong run. The home side grew in confidence and created a number of chances in the 15 minutes that followed. Bexhill remained resilient and were almost rewarded only for Kennedy to be denied by a vital touch from the goalkeeper followed by the post. Both sides secured a number of corners in the final stages, that were well defended, but it was Mole Valley who rounded off the tie 3 minutes from time, number 10 calmly slotting home from another strong run.
