Reserves unlucky in second home game
Bexhill unable to capitalise on early lead.
The opening quarter of the match was action packed to say the least. In the second minute, Gabriella Beckett lifted her 20 yard effort over the Wandgas number one to open the scoring, however the lead was short lived when 90 seconds later Wandgas mirrored the effort. Within 10 minutes Wandgas had secured the lead through a well-placed free-kick. Josie Honnor and Beckett provided wide outlets for Bexhill as they worked themselves back into the game in reply. Sharron Barnett and Rosa Donovan worked the visiting backline and were duly rewarded with a number of corners for their efforts. Wandgas were able to extend their lead, however, via a counter attack 30 minutes in, punishing Bexhill when they failed to clear their lines effectively. Moments later Bexhill reduced the deficit when Donovan half volleyed a forward pass from Sophie Henson. Half time came at the wrong time for the home side who had started to build momentum.
After the break, Bexhill picked up where they left off and enjoyed large amounts of possession in the final third. Beckett, Donovan and Magdalena Trybula all had chances but at times, Bexhill should have taken more shots at goal. The Bexhill backline held firm and were able to protect goalkeeper Serena Mathews from direct efforts, however Mathews was called upon to collect a number of fast paced through balls. With 10 minutes to go, Bexhill secured a free-kick within shooting distance, the decision to complicate the set piece with a pass proved costly when moments later Wandgas extended their lead with their second effort of the half. In the final stages, Barnett was unlucky not to convert a corner, her effort glancing the outside of the post.
