A solitary Ian Sampson strike was all Bideford needed to see off in-form Dorchester at the Sports Ground on Saturday.

One goal proved enough for Biddy to take all the points against the Magpies in a game where both teams played attractive football, with the result giving the reds their third successive victory and their best run of the season so far.

Dorchester were first to have a shot at goal when Jake Smeeton sent an effort wide on 12 minutes. Eight minutes later Kevin Squire chipped a ball over a visiting defender and into the path of Ian Sampson, who slotted the ball past the diving Alan Walker-Harris to put Bideford in front.

Within seconds of the re-start, Ben Wood almost doubled the scoreline when his fierce shot scrapped the outside of the Dorchester up-right. Dorchester responded on the half hour when Nathan Walker headed over the Biddy crossbar.

For the rest of the half it was one-way traffic and Sampson and Richard Groves sent efforts wide and Squire saw a goal-bound shot cleared off the line.

Three minutes in to the second half Billy Tucker had a shot well-saved by Walker-Harris and then a second attempt flew wide. On 58 minutes Dorchester had their first shot on target when Walker's effort was easily saved by Steve Oliver.

On the hour Walker-Harris pulled off a tremendous save from a Groves free-kick and then needed to pull off another good save to deny Sampson.

In the final quarter of an hour Oliver was forced in to saving a shot from Dan Smith, and Tucker sent an effort wide of the Dorchester goal.

The Biddy win pulls them 16 points clear of the relegation zone and just 5 points off a top 10 spot.

Bideford are in action again on Tuesday evening (24th Feb) when they host Cambridge City for the replay of the abandoned game earlier in the season.
