Bideford continued with their pre-season campaign with a win over a Torquay Utd Xl at the Sports Ground this evening.

A crowd of over 200 saw the new look Biddy team for the first time at home in the 14/15 pre-season fixtures, and first half goals from Kev Squires and Ben Kirk earned Sean Joyce's men the win against a combination of Torquay's Utd's reserves and developments teams.

From the NDJ:

Squire struck the opening goal from close range, taking his tally to three in two friendly games following his double in the win at Barnstaple Town on Saturday. Kirk, the new midfielder signed from Weston-super-Mare, then added the second after a powerful strike from Squire was saved.

A young Torquay line-up included Danny Sullivan, the forward who had a loan spell with Bideford last season. The visitors pulled one back with a swerving shot from Jordan Chapell in the second half.
Bideford went close to restoring their two-goal cushion when Ben Wood and Matt Wright had efforts saved and Wood struck a post.

With five wins and a draw from their first six friendlies, it has been an encouraging pre-season for the Robins.

Their preparations for the new season continue with home fixtures against St Austell on Saturday (ko 3pm) and a Plymouth Argyle XI on Tuesday (ko 7.30pm).
