Bideford progressed to the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round after a dramatic 2-1 at Bodmin Town last night.

Second half goals from James Richards and Billy Tucker won the tie for Bideford after Jake Ash had given Bodmin a half time lead. The game also saw three sendings off, Matt Andrew and Dan Harrison for Bideford with Nick Milton being dismissed for the home side.

Bideford started the brighter as Dan Western sliced a good chance wide after just two minutes. Sean Downing curled a free kick just past the post a minute later while at the other end Josh Colwill looked on helplessly as a free kick was deflected onto his crossbar. Former Bideford man Milton was booked for preventing a quick free kick, a decision that would come back to haunt him. Bodmin created a good opening after quarter of an hour as Bowker pulled the ball back to Jake Ash but the skipper's effort was well wide. Downing then brilliantly brought down a ball into the box but his shot was saved by Kyle Moore. Minutes later Milton dived in rashly on Matt Bye and was sent off. Matt Andrew was perhaps lucky to only receive a booking for a dangerous challenge on Ash. Two minutes before the break Sullivan crossed from the right for Ash to bury a header past Colwill to give the Cornishmen the lead.

In the second half Bideford came out searching for an equaliser. Stephen Reed, with his first touch after coming, saw a free kick saved by Moore. Soon after James Richards made a great run down the right, cut inside and shot just wide of the near post. On the hour mark Andrew was shown a second yellow card for a late lunge to make it ten-a-side. Rather than deter Bideford it seemed to spur them on as they put Bodmin under real pressure in the last twenty minutes. A string of corners ended with Moore not dealing with a cross and Richards slamming home a deserved equaliser for Bideford. With just five minutes left of the ninety lively substitute Billy Tucker stole in after a defensive error and showed great composure in shifting past a defender and firing a low show past Moore into the bottom right corner.

In the final minute Harrison was shown a second yellow card for pulling down a Bodmin forward meaning Bideford had to survive seven minutes of injury time with nine men. They just about managed it although there was a really close call at the death when Bromhead's deflected shot hit the outside of the post. In the end it was a really hard fought win for Bideford who showed great character in coming from behind to secure a home tie with AFC Portchester in the next round.
