Bideford were unable to hold on to an early lead through an wonder strike from Richard Groves, to go down by 2 goals to 1 at Leamington on Saturday.

Report by North Devon Journal

Despite grabbing the opener from Richard Groves's first-half free-kick, the Robins suffered with a hangover from their fourth game in 11 days, all of which were away from home.

Lee Moore drew the game level after 25 minutes and Leamington went on to claim victory in the 55th minute through Rob Ogleby's dipping half volley which moved his side up to second.

"We looked off it to be honest and very fatigued," said Bideford manager Sean Joyce. "We never got out of first gear really and apart from the last 10 minutes they were the better team."

Groves gave Bideford a surprise lead five minutes into play as his free-kick was fumbled over the line by Leamington's keeper. But Biddy failed to build on their early advantage as last season's relegated Conference North side came charging back and netted the equaliser after 25 minutes through Moore's low drive.

Jordan Charran glanced a header wide but in the second period it was the Brakes who went further on to the front foot. Ogleby gave the hosts a 2-1 lead with his edge-of-the-box half-volley 10 minutes after the break. Bideford goalkeeper Kyle Moore also pulled off two fine saves to stop Ben Mackey.

Bideford's defence did well to stop more goals but they lacked a structure in the middle and killer instinct going forward as the home side saw the game out comfortably.
