Bideford make their first trip to Wantage Town in Oxfordshire this Saturday in Southern League Division One S&W.
Formed in 1892 Wantage Town played local league football in the Swindon & District, North Berkshire, and Reading & District leagues until joining the Hellenic League Premier Division for the 1956/57 season. Between 1956 and 2014 Wantage were relegated to Hellenic League Division One six times but were also promoted back to the Premier six times. Wantage were Division One champions in 1980/81, Division One East champions in 2003/04 and in 2010/11 they achieved their highest honour in winning the Hellenic League Premier Division. They won the title a second time in 2013/14 and accepted promotion to Southern League Division One South & West. Wantage have struggled in Division One finishing 20th in 2014/15 and again in 2015/16 narrowly avoiding relegation.
This season The Alfredians are looking for a more comfortable finish in the league but they haven't made a good start winning just one league game so far this season (W1 D5 L10). That win came last Saturday at Bridgwater Town who as a result replaced Wantage at the foot of the table. Wantage's only other wins this season have come in the cups.

Bideford continue to have mixed fortunes. A really poor defeat to Barnstaple in the Southern League Cup was followed by an excellent league win over Swindon Supermarine last Saturday. Bideford's problem has been consistency as they've only once scored back to back victories this season. They will be looking to improve that record with a win at Wantage followed by a home game against bottom club Bridgwater. New signing Chris McPhee could be handed a starting place with Kai Fisher injured and Dan Harrison suspended.
