WIMBORNE TOWN 2 BIDEFORD 2
Kevin Squire’s last gasp equaliser earned Bideford an important point at Wimborne Town on Saturday.
The Robins came back from 2-0 down with two goals in the last six minutes to earn a point at fellow play-off hopefuls Wimborne Town. Ben Seymour gave Bideford hope with a great strike on 84 minutes before Squire headed home his second vital goal this week, assisted by the head of Steve Oliver!
Seymour went close to giving Bideford the lead after five minutes with a free kick that was well tipped over by Gerard Benfield. At the other end Oliver made amends for a poor goal kick by making a good save after closing down Tobias Holmes. Ex-Barnstaple man Lee Francis gave the home side the lead on 17 minutes as he slotted home after being teed up by Holmes. The Robins almost levelled after a swift counter attack saw Seymour chip the out-rushing Benfield but Stefan Penny was on hand to head to safety. Francis headed wide late in the half for the hosts who lead at the break.
Two minutes into the second period James Stokoe was dismissed for a foul on Ben Carter but The Magpies still could have gone two to the good but for Oliver’s save from Holmes. Oliver then made another good save, this time from Luke Burbidge before Louis Kellaway fired wide. Sean Downing lofted the ball just over as the game reached the final 15 minutes and it looked like game over a minute later as Holmes found the net from close range following a corner.
Jack Lovell’s strike that hit the crossbar proved to be a pivotal moment as two minutes later Bideford were back in the game as Seymour struck on 84 minutes with a smooth strike from 25 yards. Bideford then threw everything at The Magpies in the final few minutes and got their reward right at the death as Oliver, up for a corner, nodded the ball back for the evergreen Squire to bury a dramatic equaliser for The Robins.
