CINDERFORD TOWN 3 BIDEFORD 4
WESTERN STUNNER GIVES ROBINS HOPE
Bideford struck twice in injury time to win a quite incredible game at Cinderford Town last night 4-3.
A stunning strike from Dan Western four minutes into added time won the game for The Robins to just about keep them in the playoff mix going into the last day of the season.
Bideford dominated the first half against a Cinderford side who had won their last five games and not conceded in their last four. Ben Seymour gave The Robins the lead on 18 minutes with a smart finish after a lovely flick by Ryan Turner. It was 2-0 on the half hour mark as a clever back heel from Sean Downing allowed Ben Wood in to finish well past Cameron Clarke.
Cinderford came roaring back in the second half as a defensive mistake allowed Lewis Bamford in to pull one back just two minutes after the restart. Then an error by Steve Oliver allowed Matt McDonald to lob the ball home from the edge of the box to make it two apiece. Cinderford completed the turnaround as Craig Norman rose highest at the back post to head in from a corner.
It looked to be all over for The Robins until Matt Bye’s free kick into the box looped off the head of Richard Greaves into his own net in the 91st minute. Then in the fourth minute of added time Ben Palmer’s cross found its way to Wood who laid the ball off for Western to hit a superb dipping strike into the top corner to incredibly win it for Bideford!
It was a tremendous effort from The Robins especially considering their recent schedule and the miles travelled, and just rewards for their never say die attitude which was won them so many points this season. Bideford will still need to beat Winchester City on Saturday and require favours from other teams but to still be in contention on the last day after completing a huge backlog of fixtures is a testament to the great effort put in by everyone in our small squad of players.
