New Players Welcome
Another good season for the nomads witnessed some more new blood as well as offering longstanding players the opportunity to return to the game and enjoy the sport thry had missed for some time, Our stalwarts continue to turn out week on week with pete seward, richard squire, darren palmer, jason turner and player of the season shaun woodhead leading by example, there are so many others to , so my apologies for omissions, lee faux stepped up to captain after a bad injury to geb norris which seems to have brought an end to his playing career, we wish him well with recovery,
Nomads honoured all their fixtures which is more than can be said for some clubs which seem to find travelling away difficult if they have less than 15 players !!! , we have enjoyed the hospitality of many clubs and old friends, which together with playing rugby with your own mates, makes for such a amazing experience, winning is the cream on the cake and we managed a good few victories both home and away, including the veterans annual derby at torrington when we remembered Dave Hickman and brought his trophy back to bideford, we have a blend of young and not so young, athlets and those of us a little more challenged. it does not mean we play a soft game of "touch" . our matches can be aggressive and tough, many injuries sustained and much pain suffered, it is not for the faint hearted, many old gnarled props are encountered and they do not mess about, even in their twilight years !!! , what we have is comardery second to none and a desire to win every game, the latter was a challenge on our end of season trip to crediton, dressed as pirates and supping port on the train was not the ideal prep, neither was travelling short and leaving the shirts behind !!!,step up did our hosts with spare shirts and step up did mr mike blong for hisfirst game for years and we had a game on !!, the extra port at half time was the final nail in the coffin but we won the singing competition on the train home so did not return empty handed !!!
Long Live The Nomads spirt,
