GOALIE OR NOT GOALIE!!

BIGGLESWADE TOWN 3 v STRATFORD TOWN 1

Report by Mike Draxler

With Stratford in town a small amount of culture is always required, hence the headline. Still with Craig playing in goal and doing an admiral job.
Close to the end of the season with both teams playing for pride only, no relegation fears or promotion hopes the game started as a quiet affair with both teams cancelling out in the middle of the park. Notable moments both involving the keepers. On 28 Craig Daniel saved point blank from Ben Stevens whilst at the other end a miracle dive pushed a Jack Bowen header round the post by Louis Connor. Approaching half time and with George Bailey having been a pain all half to his marking player, got to the by-line to cross for Bowen to scramble the ball home. A slender advantage at the end of the first period.

Stratford back first with the Waders making them wait while that final word from Chris Nunn, has been said. 52 in and an attackers tackle , in the box, from Tony Burnett was adjudged a foul as Stevens hit the deck. The resulting penalty was despatched by the same player. The Waders moved up a gear as the forward players took command. Burnett down the left into Bailey who spun 180 to fire home for a 2-1 lead. Waders ploughed on giving no respite to the tired defence. 73 rings the changes from Chris Nunn as Taishan Griffiths comes on for a rare appearance. Impact sub or What? but Taishan is running round with his hands in the air after only 60 seconds. A George Bailey shot parried by the keeper fell nicely to Griffiths who wrong footed the lot and put the ball away. Biggleswade continued to press with Jack Bowen hitting the upright as is his want most games. Stratford? well they did not offer a lot going forward and Waders chalked up the first win with Captain Craig in goal.
Next up Hereford, top of the league and can secure that championship at the Langford Road on Tuesday. By all accounts the crowd is going to be huge and locals may be better advised to leave the car at home. Be early space is going to be tight. Till then lets all dream of spoiling the party. Up the Waders.
MOM GEORGE BAILEY.
