Not quite the expected result
Emphatic performance and win over Newark 3rd / 4th
Bingham 85 - Newark 10
We welcomed a mixture of Newark 3rd & 4th team to Brendon Grove for a friendly not expecting such a win given a number of players absent, this was our 1st outing this season and particularly after Newark had beaten Keyworth the week before.
This feeling was reaffirmed during the 1st 5 minutes as Newark made good ground, maintained possession and looked dangerous in attack. However, having managed to get hold of the ball, good forward pressure led to Ben Jones forcing his way over. Just the confidence booster Bingham needed and, Newark didn't want as Bingham began to offload well and recycle with telling breaks from Chris Spibey & Mike Fuller leading to 2 quick fire tries from Jamie Graham. Jamie got his hat-trick before half time with Bingham crossing the line on 3 other occasions whilst Will & Ben Packer added 4 conversions.
4 early tries in the opening 15/20 minutes of the 2nd half completely killed off the game and 2 further tries before 70 minutes, with Jamie Graham getting his 4th. All converted by Ben Packer.
Newark to their credit kept plugging away and were rewarded with 2 tries of their own in the last 10 minutes but a final score of 85 - 10
A big thanks to Newark for the spirit the game was played and for staying for the after match awards.
Reality check as the league starts next week with Mansfield Woodhouse visiting Brendon Grove who gave us a bit of a walloping in the last game of last season
