Keyworth grind out narrow win 14 - 3
A hard fought game and buoyed by the return of players from injury
After experiencing so many injuries and non availability pre & post-Xmas, Bingham travelled to Keyworth with a full squad albeit with several players still carrying niggles but buoyed by the return of Chris Heathcote, Chris Bell, Lee Stokoe & Will Packer who have only league games between them all season and new addition to the ranks, Ben Sansom.
A really heavy pitch favoured the Keyworth pack and Bingham were unable to get enough clean & quick ball to the backs. Early territory from Bingham was rewarded with a Matt Cumming penalty but Keyworth replied with a penalty and, after a number of offside penalties Bingham handed field position to Keyworth who drove over to take the lead 8 - 5
A crucial moment came after a late tackle on Matt Cumming. Whilst this led to a yellow for the Keyworth 10, it resulted in Matt playing no further part and affected Binghams ability to get the ball moving and additional injury to Ben Sansom impacted the backs further.
Just before halftime a glimmer of a score in the corner but Chris Garrod was forced into touch.
Keyworth playing with the slope in the 2nd half had much of the territory and even Jamie Graham found the conditions just too heavy for him to show his speed. However, game defence kept the line intact throughout the 2nd half and limited Keyworth to just 2 penalties even with Lee Fretwell taking a team yellow for too many offsides.
Final score 14 -3 & always tough to lose to our local rivals but given recent experiences, a lot of positives to take forward and further players hopefully on the comeback trail.
