The battle of the breakdown, the scrap at the set piece and more commonly the fight for the title and the relegation dog-fight. Rugby is always coloured, an endless skirmish with the toughest attrition being seen as the junior Clubs struggle to climb the stairs back to the higher league levels for a better standard of rugby.

However, the most intense and indeed exhilarating stramash as we head into the season’s end may not come from the Lancashire Bowl semi-final but the final league game deciding who bursts into the top league next term.

For the first time in the Clubs history Birchfield RUFC field two sides eyeing for promotion on the final day. The 1XV host Pendle RUFC and a win will see them promoted to North Lancs Division 1.

The 2XV are away at West Park RUFC 3XV and a win will see them secure a double, being promoted for the second consecutive time to Raging Bull Division 3 South.
