Match Report
Great performance from Findlater on return from injury
Birchfield finally got back to winning ways, beating Tarleton away 21 points to 3. A strong performance saw Birchfield dominate the home side from the off, but unfortunately failed to capitalise on the possession and territorial advantage, also missing two penalties early on. Tarleton spent very little time in the Birchfield half, but managed to come away with a penalty and three points. To lead at half time 3 points to nil.
Second Half
With the second half under way Birchfield quickly got points on the board. With a scrum on the Tarleton 5 meter, the away forwards pushed the opposition over their line for Dennett to score a converted try. The home side struggled to get any sort of grip on the game, which wasn’t helped by the constant menacing around the Ruck area by Paul Findlater, this was Findlaters’ first game back through injury since February. Strong running from Neil Barratt saw him drive over the line grounding the ball, only for the Referee to see it late and call a scrum. From the resulting scrum Hanley threw out along pass which found Wing Danny Woods to score in the corner, converted by Royle. With 10 minutes to go Birchfield finished the game off, with great passing throughout the backline with Sam Impey supplying the final killer pass to Woods, who yet again finished off well in the corner. With the try converted the clock ran down, Birchfield won the game 21 points to 3. This was a great Squad performance, which will have to be repeated next Saturday for another away trip this time to Ashton Under Lyne.
