Park played entertaining rugby which matched the sunny conditions. They were 28-3 to the good by the half-way stage and although they eased off somewhat later they were never in danger.

Beverley had the first say with an early penalty by Phil Ouboulay but the home side ran in tries via Danny Rich, Mike Chapman, Ollie Mabbott and Greg hughes by the 37th minute with Dave Hall converting three times.

A Mark Shaw touch down after the re-start gave Beverley hope but it was quickly dispelled as Hall and Gavin Scott crossed in quick succession for Birkenhead. Tom Cassidy was credited with the seventh and last try.

Rich added two home conversions but Beverley had the last say as John Graham crossed and Ouboulay added the extras.

After the previous week’s laboured victory at Altrincham, Park skipper Chris Jones had pin pointed the need to get back to the early season free flowing style and in this respect he was not disappointed.

Jones was once again in the thick of the action and said: “We certainly produced an improved standard this week and created some great scores in the process.”

The catalyst for the improvement was the movement of the versatile Danny Rich to stand off where he combined effectively with scrum half Steve Lowry.

This Saturday Park make the short journey across the Mersey to Blundellsands to take on local rivals Waterloo.

Director of Rugby John McNally said: “There is a massive history and tradition to this fixture and we will need to be at our best.”
