There was an impressive 10 try victory over Marr at a sun drenched Birkmyre Park yesterday. Following very heavy overnight rain this fixture had been in some doubt but the coaches considered the conditions and forecast and decided that the game should go ahead. This proved to be the right decision with a great afternoon of running rugby on display for the large assembled crowd who basked in the autumnal sunshine.

The game was started with 14 players per side with Marr bolstering their team with a couple of bulky S2 players. Birkmyre having a full squad turnout for only the second time this season got off to a fantastic start with quick ball won by the forwards and a typical break and elusive run from eventual man of the Match Rowan Gibson. Rowan would go on to score a total of 5 tries and finished off most of the excellent backs moves. Quick distribution from the half backs of Callum Moglia and Fergus Harvey was key to the back line performance and Fergus also capped a fine performance with the ball in hand with landing 5 conversions.

The pack dominated at the ruck and competed well in open play against a bigger Marr set of forwards. There was a lot of loose ball and captain Scott Ritchie led by example in securing a lot of ball on the ground.

Marr have always proven to be well drilled and tough opposition. A lot of ground was made by their strong running forwards with Birkmyre making too many high ineffectual tackles. This area will need to be improved upon.

When Birkmyre had the Ball moving forward there was some strong running up front by Kieran Kennedy and Robbie Espie and the support running was too much for Marr to halt.

Ultimately when the ball is shipped through the hands the Birkmyre S1 team are very hard to stop. Tries in the backs were also scored by Cammy Marr and jamie haran who had another strong game in the centre.

A final tally of 10 tries to 4 meant a big winning margin followed a good performance.

Well done lads!
