Birkmyre S1's took on the mighty Glasgow Hawks for the first time yesterday. Playing 3 20 minute sessions the team started slowly and found themselves 4 tries to 1 down after the first 20 minutes. The Hawks team were quicker to the breakdown and rucking well to win clean ball for their speedy backline.

The Birky boys led by Captain Scott Ritchie upped their game though and the second and third periods of play were even with 4 more tries each. Three of the Birkmyre tries were scored by man of the match Cammy Marr who had an outstanding game.

Scrum half Callum Moglia kept the pressure on Hawks with constant quick taps and was rewarded with an easy try that followed some great forward play where Robbie Espie had a particularly good game. Special mention to Craig McIntyre who was a constant thorn in the Hawks side stealing ball and generally making a nuisance of himself!

Playing out of position Kieran Kennedy showed again what a strong runner he is in the centre of the park. There was some great passing from Fergus Harvey and jamie haran to release Cammy for his tries and Haimsh Louden was in support to finish of another fine backs move.

Hawks gave our back three a hard time and Charlie Hay and Hamish may have a recurring nightmare of seeing their winger cross the line 7 times to score. Well done to Jono Bradford for realising its easier to stop the guy from running before he starts! Credit to the Hawks played who had real pace and would be a welcome addition to any team.

The Birkmyre front row of Jamie Ewing, Cammy Davidson and Martin McLeman had tough and sizeable opposition but stuck to the job in hand and competed well.

All the players should be proud of their performance and discipline shown throughout the game.

Congratulations to Glasgow Hawks on a fine win.

Thanks to all that came to watch and support the boys and to James Halpin for refereeing.

Cheers

Proud Coach Jam
